Les conditions ou maladies chroniques affectent la vie et peu d’entre elles laissent l’espoir d’une rémission. À la base d’une amélioration pour de nombreuses maladies ou troubles chroniques, il y a des changements fondamentaux dans le mode de vie qui peuvent avoir des répercussions majeures sur votre qualité de vie.
Pour le cancer comme pour les maladies thyroïdiennes, pour les maladies auto-immunes comme pour les maladies cardiaques, les aliments peuvent être des médicaments. Bien que des soins médicaux de qualité soient essentiels, ne sous-estimez jamais le pouvoir d’un mode de vie et des connaissances thérapeutiques. Ceux-ci peuvent en effet vous offrir une qualité de vie d’un niveau supérieur.
Les maladies auto-immunes
Une maladie auto-immune se produit lorsque le système immunitaire s’attaque à un organe ou à un système corporel spécifique. Bien que le système immunitaire soit conçu pour protéger contre les envahisseurs extérieurs, il existe certaines choses qui peuvent envoyer des messages contradictoires à l’organisme et lui faire croire que son propre organe ou système corporel, qui lui appartient, est étranger.
Lorsque la maladie auto-immune prend le dessus, les symptômes peuvent être très variés et dévastateurs. Malheureusement, les maladies auto-immunes peuvent être difficiles à diagnostiquer, car elles peuvent masquer d’autres affections. Vous pouvez jouer un rôle actif dans votre propre santé en comprenant vos antécédents familiaux et quels sont les risques de maladies chroniques qui pourraient vous frapper.
L’une des plus grandes portes d’entrée des maladies auto-immunes est l’intestin. Les fuites intestinales se produisent lorsque des allergies alimentaires, des produits chimiques ou certaines particules détériorent la paroi de l’intestin grêle, entraînant la « fuite » de particules indésirables à travers la paroi intestinale et leur entrée dans la circulation sanguine. (1) En cas de maladie auto-immune, la première étape consiste à guérir l’intestin pour éviter d’aggraver la situation. À partir de là, vous pouvez commencer à cibler la maladie auto-immune spécifique en adoptant un régime alimentaire et un mode de vie appropriés.
La digestion
Même si vous menez une vie saine, vous n’atteindrez jamais votre plein potentiel de bien-être si votre digestion est défaillante. Notre santé dépend des nutriments que nous absorbons et que nous digérons. Les problèmes digestifs ont tendance à se classer dans quelques catégories de base :
- Les problèmes d’estomac, par exemple les reflux acides, les douleurs stomacales, les ulcères
- Les problèmes de l’intestin grêle, par exemple, le syndrome de l’intestin perméable, la prolifération bactérienne intestinale, le syndrome de malabsorption
- Les problèmes du gros intestin, par exemple la constipation, la diarrhée, les inflammations intestinales
Parfois, les gens se battent contre des problèmes digestifs se manifestant à différents endroits de leur corps, mais en réalité, si vous ne corrigez pas le ou les problèmes se trouvant à la racine de cette condition médicale, même une alimentation saine ne pourra rien résoudre.
La résolution des problèmes digestifs exige une combinaison de changements alimentaires et de remèdes naturels. L’avantage des remèdes naturels est qu’ils ont tendance à avoir moins d’effets secondaires et à ne pas surcorriger le problème. Attention : il est important de consulter un professionnel de la santé si vous avez de graves problèmes d’absorption alimentaire, de digestion ou d’excrétion.
Les hormones
Nous avons tous des hormones, et, quand elles fonctionnent comme elles le devraient, nous n’en avons absolument pas conscience. Mais si une seule d’entre elles se dérègle, nos vies peuvent être bouleversées et les résultats de ce dérèglement peuvent aller de légèrement frustrants à désastreux.
Les hormones ont des centaines de fonctions dans le corps, allant de la régulation du métabolisme et des réactions au stress au contrôle de la fonction reproductive, de la grossesse et de la perte de poids. Les hormones vous disent même quand vous avez faim et quand vous êtes rassasié. Mais les hormones peuvent commencer à être surproduites ou sous-produites par l’organisme à la moindre anicroche.
Pire encore, lorsqu’une hormone va mal, elle a tendance à entraîner les autres hormones avec elle. Eh oui, quand une hormone va mal, les autres hormones peuvent commencer à provoquer des problèmes elles aussi !
L’équilibre des hormones peut donc être aussi complexe qu’un tango endiablé, et, parfois, il n’est même pas évident de savoir quelle(s) hormone(s) est (sont) à l’origine des problèmes.
Heureusement, la réponse à la question de l’équilibre hormonal est souvent simple et consiste à faire des changements adaptés dans son style de vie et à améliorer son régime alimentaire pour obtenir un soutien efficace. Bien que les médicaments de substitution hormonale aient leur utilité, si la cause profonde d’un problème hormonal n’est pas connue, la substitution hormonale ne fera que continuer à masquer le problème initial.
La santé de la thyroïde
La thyroïde est un petit organe qui se trouve à la base du cou. Quand elle fonctionne convenablement, on ne la remarque pas. Mais quand elle commence à mal fonctionner, elle peut avoir un impact sur la santé et le bien-être d’une personne.
La thyroïde produit des hormones qui régulent le métabolisme, et elle joue un rôle clé dans la santé reproductive, l’énergie cellulaire, la régulation de la température corporelle, l’appétit, le sommeil, l’humeur, la digestion, ainsi que dans la santé des cheveux, de la peau, des ongles et des os. Les problèmes de la thyroïde ont tendance à exister dans 2 catégories principales : hyperactive et sous-active. Une thyroïde hyperactive est appelée hyperthyroïdie, et une thyroïde sous-active est appelée hypothyroïdie. L’hypothyroïdie est beaucoup plus courante.
Pour aggraver les choses, les problèmes de la thyroïde peuvent présenter une composante auto-immune. La maladie auto-immune de la thyroïde hyperactive est connue sous le nom de maladie de Graves, et l’hypothyroïdie auto-immune est connue sous le nom de thyroïdite de Hashimoto. La maladie de Hashimoto est la maladie auto-immune la plus répandue qui existe, touchant plus de 10% de la population.
Il est important que tout problème thyroïdien soit correctement diagnostiqué et traité en conséquence. Alors qu’une thyroïde qui ne fonctionne pas correctement peut avoir un impact négatif sur l’ensemble de l’organisme, une thyroïde qui est soignée et traitée de façon appropriée peut rétablir le fonctionnement normal de tout l’organisme. Des changements concernant le mode de vie et l’alimentation sont souvent nécessaires pour stabiliser la thyroïde et, dans certains cas, des médicaments ou des hormones de remplacement peuvent également être nécessaires.
La santé surrénale
Les glandes surrénales se trouvent au milieu du dos, juste au-dessus des reins. Elles produisent des hormones qui régulent les réponses au stress, les hormones de reproduction, la pression sanguine et le métabolisme.
Les glandes surrénales régulent également l’horloge biologique, et lorsque les hormones surrénales sont en déséquilibre, cela peut entraîner des problèmes de sommeil, de l’insomnie, et même des troubles de l’appétit, par exemple le fait de ne pas avoir d’appétit en début de journée et de manger avec plus d’intensité tout au long de l’après-midi et de la soirée.(4)
La santé des glandes surrénales peut être abordée principalement par le biais du mode de vie et de l’alimentation. Le sucre peut être un problème lorsqu’il s’agit d’hormones de stress surrénal, et le fait d’abandonner des habitudes de sommeil et d’exercice saines peut accroître les problèmes à long terme.
Le diabète et le taux de sucre dans le sang
Des millions de personnes en France sont atteints de diabète, et beaucoup d’entre elles peuvent ne pas être diagnostiqués. Les déséquilibres de sucre dans le sang peuvent avoir des conséquences sur la santé de l’ensemble de l’organisme et peuvent entraîner d’autres maladies chroniques comme les maladies cardiaques et la maladie d’Alzheimer. Bien que l’approche conventionnelle de la gestion du diabète comprenne souvent des médicaments et des édulcorants artificiels permettant de réduire la charge en glucides, une approche holistique utilisant des aliments naturels se révèle souvent beaucoup plus efficace pour traiter le diabète. (6)
Le sucre raffiné, les glucides contenus dans les aliments transformés et les huiles végétales riches en oméga-6 sont les principaux responsables alimentaires qui mènent au diabète de type 2 et aux maladies chroniques. Bien que le diabète de type 1 soit une maladie auto-immune, les deux formes de diabète peuvent être gérées avec un régime Paléo riche en protéines saines, en acides gras oméga-3, en légumes et en fruits.
Le cancer
Il n‘existe que peu de choses dans la littérature concernant la nutrition traditionnelle qui parlent d’une véritable prévention du cancer. Pourtant, lorsque nous comprenons que le cancer, quel qu’en soit le type, est une croissance et une reproduction anormales des cellules, nous pouvons commencer à aborder la prévention du cancer au niveau cellulaire. Une grande partie du régime alimentaire occidental contribue à la croissance anormale des cellules. Notre mode d’alimentation standard est rempli d’huiles hydrogénées, de nourriture oxydée, de sucres et de glucides raffinés qui contribuent tous à la confusion cellulaire. Lorsque vous passez à une alimentation complète, au régime Paléo, vous consommez plus d’oméga-3, de fruits et légumes anti-inflammatoires et de graisses protectrices de la santé à partir de viandes provenant d’animaux élevés en pâturage et de produits de la mer.
La prévention et le traitement du cancer ont leurs racines dans un régime alimentaire qui protège la santé. Cela ne minimise pas les merveilles de la médecine moderne, mais il est rare qu’un plan de traitement médical soit efficace si le corps n’est pas nourri par des aliments de haute qualité et riches en nutriments.
La santé cardiaque
Les maladies cardiaques provoquent plus de 400 morts par jour rien qu’en France et sont la première cause de mortalité prématurée en Europe. Avec autant de campagnes sur la santé cardiaque, pourquoi est-ce toujours un des problèmes de santé majeurs de notre époque ? Se pourrait-il que les conseils nutritionnels habituels en matière de santé cardiaque soient erronés ?
La nutrition traditionnelle conseille de consommer beaucoup de céréales complètes et d’huiles végétales et met en garde contre les graisses saturées et le cholestérol. Mais ce sont ces huiles végétales hautement transformées, qui ne contiennent pas de graisses anti-inflammatoires oméga-3, et ces céréales complètes chargées d’anti-nutriments, qui sont à l’origine des problèmes cellulaires. La prévention et le traitement des maladies du cœur sont plus efficaces lorsqu’ils sont associés à des aliments complets comme les légumes, les fruits et les graisses et protéines de haute qualité. (9)
La perte de poids
Il ne manque pas de régimes qui prétendent résoudre les problèmes de poids, mais il n’en existe que peu qui assurent une perte de poids durable.
Bien qu’il n’y ait pas de réponse simple et unilatérale à la question de savoir ce qui provoque le gain de poids ou pourquoi certaines personnes perdent plus difficilement du poids que d’autres, ce sont toujours les mêmes facteurs de base qui entrent en jeu : les hormones, la digestion, l’alimentation et le mouvement.
Pour certaines personnes, tous ces facteurs sont problématiques, mais d’autres personnes peuvent ne présenter qu’un ou deux domaines ayant besoin de changement.
Bien qu’un régime Paléo puisse améliorer considérablement la capacité d’une personne à perdre du poids, ce ne sera pas vraiment une amélioration durable à moins que l’exercice physique ne joue aussi un rôle dans son mode de vie, que sa digestion soit efficace et que ses hormones soient en équilibre.
